A Micro`dos/Dinnkit demo for windows users
This demo is part of the “Micro`dos projects” and is intended only for a demo to Dinkit users. In this way dinkit programers are encourage to make the OS there way and not our way. If you are a simple user or spectator disregard the above intent.
basic concept
Windows knows nothing about the Micro`dos/Dinkit OS system. It can't read any of the files on a Micro`dos disk. In fact Windows can't even see the file names. It just sees a bunch of gobble gook. What is needed is a mediator. Freedos/Ms-dos is that mediator. Running Freedos, it can see Window files, Dos files and some Micro`dos/Dinkit files. Freedos can run most all Dos file. But can not run windows or Micro`dos files. A special environment is setup in Freedos/Ms-dos to run the Micro`dos file system. It cam hop back and forth between Freedos/Ms-dos and Mciro`dos. This is very useful to help debug the Micro`dos system. At some point maybe Micro`dos could be smart enough to run its own debugging stuff. Micro`dos is most comfortable running on is own on a floppy disk. It can run in as little as 16k of memory. The user can learn the T_demo’s commands in less than an hour. A programmer can learn the internals of the OS in fifty or so lessons. Each lesson can be learned in about a day. With the first three or four lessons be the longest and the most difficult. (that is if you are a newbe)
T_Demo is made as easy as possible to setup because we want you to come back for some of the lessons. The most common complaint is setting up your BIOS to startup on a floppy disk.
If your computer doesn’t have a floppy drive and you don’t want to install one, an alternative way is to move the download zip file to a memory pin stick. Then move the memory pin stick to an older computer the has a floppy drive.
Go to the downloads page and click on the “T_demo” link
Note .You will need 2 floppy disks. one 720k 3 1/2" floppy disk and one 1440k 3 1/2” floppy disk.
